One alumni voice. Countering Bigotry.

Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) harnesses the unique power of alumni to counter antisemitism, including demonization of Israel and other forms of bigotry at universities. In the face of unprecedented attacks on Jewish and Zionist students, staff and faculty, ACF’s network acts to address acts of antisemitism on campus and ensure that universities remain pillars of truth and academic freedom. ACF members proactively engage with the administration at their alma maters to prevent discrimination, promote open dialogue, and foster respectful debate.

The student government of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) has unanimously passed a resolution adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. The resolution also notes the increase in antisemitic incidents around the United States and denounces all forms of antisemitism.

This resolution “makes clear once again that the CSUN community embraces, nurtures, and protects its 4,000+ Jewish undergraduate students, as well as its Jewish faculty, alumni, and community friends,” according to Hillel 818 Executive Director Matt Baram. “Jews throughout all of Greater Los Angeles should know that CSUN is a wonderful place to be Jewish,” he added.

We applaud California State University, Northridge's student government for taking this critical step to combat antisemitism. We call on more universities to follow suit and take a stand against bigotry.

A professor at UC Riverside tweeted that “Zionism politically toxified our schools and curricula” during an online debate about the California Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. The tweet from Media and Cultural Studies Professor Dylan Rodríguez also urged for the inclusion of Arab American Studies into the curriculum.

“This is exactly the type of hate that we must keep out of California’s ethnic studies model curriculum (ESMC),” Carly F. Gammill, director of the StandWithUs Center for Combating Antisemitism said. “UC Riverside should strongly condemn this professor’s statement and California education officials should take note of what to guard against as they finalize the ESMC,” she added.

We strongly condemn this hateful rhetoric. UC Riverside must make it clear that bigotry—whether online or offline—will not be tolerated.

Over the past few months, Cornell University has had a consistent problem with antisemitism, particularly stemming from guest lecturers. Most recently, during a presentation titled “Palestine Is There, Where It Has Always Been,” a guest lecturer showed photographs of Jewish pioneers and Israeli politicians with their faces blacked out. Another speaker required students to read about how Israel engages in “pinkwashing.”

“The common thread that comes out of the above incidents is sobering. In both cases, professors attempted to impress their own opinions on students,” CAMERA on Campus Fellow Tehilla Katz writes about the events. “Even more disturbing, in the case of some Cornellians, is the apparent resistance to entertaining another point of view,” she adds.

We are appalled by this troubling pattern at Cornell University. Providing a platform for guest speakers to spread hateful rhetoric contributes to creating a hostile campus environment. We call on Cornell to take the necessary steps to ensure that all students receive an unbiased education.

Antisemitism is, sadly, pervasive at Cornell right now. Follow our page (or Jewish On Campus) to see more examples.

A group of Jewish Studies faculty members at Johns Hopkins University wrote a letter expressing concerns about antisemitic incidents at the school and recommending ways to mitigate the problem. The latest incident involves a teaching assistant who discussed giving lower grades to Zionist students.

“As scholars of the Jewish experience, we understand the protean character of antisemitism and the ease with which people can convince themselves and others of the collective guilt of targeted groups and the ‘need’ to ‘punish’ them,” the letter signed by seven faculty members states. “We hope all faculty and students at Hopkins, regardless of field, share our view that there can never be any justification for using a student’s background, identity or politics as a factor in grading,” it continues.

We commend these faculty members for speaking out against this troubling antisemitic incident. Johns Hopkins University must conduct a full investigation into the teaching assistant’s prior grading and commit to combating antisemitism in all of its forms.
