This week, Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) learned that campus officials found several anti-Semitic posters on bookshelves and tables in Davis Library.

According to a statement made by North Carolina Hillel, these posters referred to “an evil Jewish plot”, which our community knows is connected to centuries of antisemitic rhetoric.

This incident occurred almost 3 weeks after the heavily controversial Gaza Conference was hosted on campus by 37 organizations and campus departments from both the University of North Carolina and Duke University. At the time, ACF expressed concerned over the Gaza Conference and we know that the normalization of anti-Israel rhetoric can often lead to an increase in campus antisemitism.

ACF condemns the posting of these posters and any antisemitic incidents at the University of North Carolina in the strongest possible terms. According to FBI hate crimes statistics, more than half of all hate crimes with a religious bias are directed at Jews. We call on the University of North Carolina to act swiftly to protect the campus community and hold the perpetrators of this vile act accountable. We thank the University of North Carolina for their condemnation of this “abhorrent act.”

ACF fully supports the Jewish community at the University of North Carolina and we will continue to be actively engaged in taking action in response to this incident.
